FAQ

Questions we get asked

How fast should I act after water damage?

Quickly. The first 24 to 48 hours usually decide whether a home dries out or turns into mold and warped floors. Call as soon as you can so we can start extracting water and drying the structure.

Do you really answer the phone 24 hours a day?

Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies. Water damage does not wait for business hours, so we do not either. Call (406) 222-7052.

What should I do while I wait for you to arrive?

If it is safe, shut off the water at its source and stay away from standing water near outlets or appliances. Do not use a household vacuum on standing water. We will guide you the rest of the way when you call.

What happens during water damage cleanup?

First we extract the standing water. Then we set air movers and dehumidifiers to dry the structure, and we monitor moisture readings until the framing, subfloor and materials are actually dry, not just dry to the touch.

My pipe burst in the crawlspace. Do you handle that?

Yes. Frozen and burst pipes are common in Montana winters, especially in crawlspaces, cabins and homes left unheated. We find the water, dry the area, and help you get it repaired.

Can water damage cause mold?

It can if the moisture sits. Mold needs moisture to grow, which is why fast drying matters so much. When we dry a structure properly and monitor it, we cut off what mold needs.

Do you handle mold that has already started?

Yes. We fix the water source first, contain the affected area, remove the material that cannot be saved, and dry everything out so it does not come back.

What is the difference between clean, gray and black water?

Water is grouped into categories. Category 1 is clean water from a supply line. Category 2 is gray water with some contamination. Category 3 is black water, such as sewage, which is handled with extra care and protection because it carries health risks.

Do you clean up sewage backups?

Yes. Sewage is category 3 water and is handled differently from a clean water leak. We remove it safely, discard materials that cannot be sanitized, and clean and dry the area properly.

Can you help after a fire?

Yes. We handle fire and smoke damage. Soot is acidic and keeps damaging surfaces until it is cleaned, and smoke odor works its way into everything, so it needs real deodorizing rather than air freshener.

Will the smoke smell ever go away?

With proper cleaning and deodorizing, yes. Masking the odor does not last. We clean the soot and treat the surfaces and materials that hold the smell.

Do you clean carpet and upholstery too?

Yes. Carpet and upholstery cleaning is a core part of what we do. We use hot water extraction, treat spots and stains, address pet odor, and dry things so they do not re-soil quickly.

Can you get out a stain that other cleaning missed?

Often, yes. Spot and stain removal is one of the things customers thank us for. Tell us what caused the stain when you call, since that helps us treat it correctly.

Do you clean tile and grout?

Yes. We clean tile and grout and can seal grout afterward to help it stay cleaner longer.

Do you clean area rugs?

Yes. Area rugs are part of our cleaning services alongside carpet, upholstery, and tile and grout.

Do you work with insurance?

Yes, and we do it often for water and fire claims. We document the damage with photos and moisture readings, work directly with your adjuster, and bill the claim so you are not fronting the entire cost.

Will my insurance claim be approved?

We cannot promise how an insurer will decide, since every policy is different. What we can do is document everything thoroughly and walk you through the process. Ask us and we will explain what we are seeing.

How do I schedule cleaning or restoration?

Call (406) 222-7052. For emergencies we respond around the clock. For cleaning appointments we will find a time that fits your week.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Livingston and serve across Park and Gallatin counties, including Paradise Valley and the Bozeman area. If you are unsure, call and ask.

Do you serve vacation homes and cabins?

Yes. Many homes near Yellowstone and in Paradise Valley are second homes or rentals, and they are especially prone to frozen pipes when left unheated. We are glad to help.

Are you licensed and local?

We are a family owned, local company based in Livingston, Montana, trusted here for years. When you call, you reach people who live and work in this valley.

How much will it cost?

It depends on the size and type of the job, so we do not quote a flat number blindly. Call (406) 222-7052 and we will talk through your situation. For insurance claims, much of the cost may be billed to the claim.

Water or fire damage? Do not wait.

Call Blue Sky Restoration any time, day or night. We answer, we get moving fast, and we work with your insurance. Serving Livingston, Bozeman and all of Park and Gallatin counties.
